He enrolled for the service in October, 1862 in Georgetown, Delaware. He enlisted in the Army on June 7, 1863 and was, for some reason, discharged on August 22 or 23, 1863.

He enlisted as second time on September 28, 1864 and was discharged on January 23, 1865 in Wilmington, Delaware.
