: Andrew was the oldest son of John Ewing Gault (1835-1920) and Miranda Ann Powers (1841-1919). He married Nellie Jane Strain on the 4th of February 1891 in Washington County, Iowa. Initially they lived on a farm southeast of Crawfordsville until about 1925 when they moved into Crawfordsville.

Andrew was a prominent citizen in the Crawfordsville community. He served as mayor for two terms; was the supervisor of Washington County for 3 years, a member of the Crawfordsville school district board for 12 years and was elected to the Washington county hospital board of directors. He was also an elder in the Crawfordsville United Presbyterian church for 41 years.

Nellie and Andrew had five children: Blanchard, Georgia, Frank, John, and Nancy Margaret.
