Sarilda Goddard was born in Park Co. Ind, May 19th, 1829, died Sept. 11th, 1904, aged 75 years, 3 mo. and 23 days.

Her parents came to Ill. in 1836, and lived in Knox county two years. They then moved to Warren county on the farm where Robert Goddard now lives.

She united with the Christian church at Meridian, sixty years ago and was married to John Price Short Sept 30th, 1847. To them five children were born, two of them dying in infancy. Those remaining are Augustine, of Furance county, Neb., Clinton, of Boon county, Mo., and Mrs. Thalier Devoss on the old farm. She was the grandmother of twenty-six children, twenty of whom are living. She resided at the old home for 51 years.

Besides a host of friends, the deceased leaves to mourn her loss six brothers, Joseph, of Swanington, Ind.; David, of Arrowsmith, Ill.; George, of Mitchellville, Iowa; Henry, of Ormonde, Ill.; Jas. of Abington, Ill.; Robert, of this place, and one sister, Mrs. G. W. Claycomb, of Monmouth.

The funeral was held at the home of her daughter, with whom she resided. A large concourse of friends were present to pay the last tribute of respect to the beloved woman. Rev. Hugh of Monmouth conducted the services.

The pall bearers were O. N. Kenan, Chas. Goff, John Freeman, Jas. Roffey, F. D. Ogden, and Jas. Reynolds. Those from abroad were Linden Denney of Dover, Ill., Chas. Robertson and wife and Mrs. Lyman, of Abingdon.
