Darlene Lucelle Crickard, 76, a resident of Valley Head, departed her earthly home for her eternal heavenly home on Jan. 27, 2011, in Colonial Place in Elkins, after an extended illness.

She was born June 17, 1934, at Valley Head, the daughter of the late Roscoe E. Arbogast and Virgie Irene (Ware) Arbogast, who survives at Middletown, Delaware.

On Christmas Day 1952, at Valley Head, she was united in marriage to the Rev. Richard Crickard and had celebrated 58 years of marriage.

She is survived by her loving husband, the Rev. Dr. Richard Crickard, a retired United Methodist clergyman, of Valley Head.

Also surviving are two daughters, Marcia Manley of Charleston and Denise Ware and husband, Gerald, of Bedford, Pennsylvania; one son, Dr. Kevin Crickard and wife, Diana, of Buckhannon; grandchildren, Jason Manley and wife, Crisi, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Lauren Jannotta of Charleston, Chloe Ware and Patrick Ware of Bedford, Pennsylvania, and Madison Crickard of Buckhannon; two stepgrandchildren, Brandon Lesher and Devon Lesher, both of Buckhannon; and one great-grandson, Gabriel Michael Jannotta of Charleston. Two brothers, Ronnie Arbogast and wife, Sandy, of Newark, Delaware, and Eugene Arbogast and wife, Jill, of New Castle, Delaware; one sister, Mary Volz and husband, George, of Baldwin, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Dorcus Arbogast of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding her in death in 1989 was one brother, Victor Arbogast.

She was a lifelong United Methodist by faith working as a partner in ministry for 39 years throughout West Virginia with her husband. In addition, she was a devoted mother and homemaker and was a life member of the Cass Chapter 124 Order of the Eastern Star having received her 50-year membership pin in 2004 and was a life member of the United Methodist Women. In 1952, she graduated from Tygarts Valley High School and in 1960 was a graduate of Concord College, Athens, with a bachelor's degree in education. Further graduate studies followed in elementary education at West Virginia University, Morgantown.

The Crickard Family would like to extend a special thanks to Davis Memorial Hospital, Davis Health Systems Cancer Care Center, Hospice Care Corp. and Colonial Place for the special care given to Mrs. Crickard.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. At 6 p.m. Sunday, Cass Chapter No. 124 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service from the funeral home chapel. On Monday, she will be moved to the Valley Head United Methodist Church for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour with the Rev. Dr. Ken A. Ramsey, the Rev. Bonnie Starkey, the Rev. Verl Simmons and the Rev. Ann Fretwell officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Head Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, West Virginia 26520, in memory of Mrs. Crickard.
