BOONEVILLE - Velma Kate Smith McCoy, 96, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a long illness. A life-long resident of Prentiss County, she was born Jan. 28, 1903, in Prentiss County to Virgil H. and Savannah Swinney Smith. She was a homemaker and a retired machine operator in the garment industry. She was a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and traveling.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Willis officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Howard McCoy, and his wife, Molene, of Ripley; three daughters, Edith Walden of Nashville, Tenn., and Ouida Cunningham and Helen Hannon, both of Tupelo; 21 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Fred A. McCoy, in 1962; and three sons, Clayborne McCoy, Smith Dean McCoy and Wynzelee McCoy.
Pallbearers will be James Thomas and Allen Durham, and her grandsons, Jim McCoy, Bill McCoy, Ken McCoy and Mitchell McCoy.
Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.
