Son of Peter Himmel he came to America in 1831. When his family reached Petersburg Illinois, he was 13 years old and he was hired out for work in the brick yards. He saved his money and bought the old Bowser farm in Mason County near Bishop. His father Peter had him go to Indiana to make the last payment on his father( Peter) farm. Young Adam rode horseback for 3 weeks and upon his return his father had sold the old Bowser farm and bought a different farm for Adam who was very disappointed in this. He lived near Bishop until the spring of 1898 when he moved to Radcliffe Iowa. He married Katherine Pfeil on April 1 1850. She dies suddenly on Oct 27 1899 and only 4 of their 12 children lived to adulthood.
For years Adam spent the winters in the south visiting his brother John Henry's home in Hill county Texas. He underwent a serious operation in Galveston Texas a few months prior to his death. He loved playing checkers and dominoes. In his lonely hours, it is said he liked to sing gospel songs
Adam was known as Uncle Adam to all that knew him. He dies at his son, John's home in Radcliffe.
