born in Bradley, SC, he grew up on a farm in the Simpsonville community. Claude was a graduate of Simpsonville High School and the obtained his certification from the Palmetto School of Aeronautics. After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Alaska during World War II. Later in life, he retired from Delta Airlines, after 38 years, as the General Foreman of Quality Control. Claude was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Nell (Newby) Henderson.
He is survived by his daughter: Claudia Elizabeth (Henderson) Billirakis and her husband Nicholas Michael "Nick" Billirakis; sons: Charles Edwin Henderson and Robert Craig Henderson and his wife Katherine Dianne Reed; grandchildren: Michael Nicholas and Matthew Thomas Billirakis, Peden Katherine and Liam Henderson; sister: Lillian Irene (Henderson) Eaton, Jr (widow of Lafayette Claud "Doc" Eaton, Jr); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held Monday (March 14, 2011), 1:00 pm, at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Kennesaw Memorial Park. The family received friends on Sunday, March 13th, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
