Florence E. Beer, 93, passed away early Saturday morning, March 12, 2011 at Elmcroft of Ontario. Born March 23, 1917 in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Ella Winkler and John Luedy. A 1935 graduate of Lexington High School, she was an area homemaker her entire life. Florence was a member of the Park Avenue West First Church of God. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking bread and pecan rolls. An independent woman, she maintained her lawn following her husband's death in 1985. Florence's family was very special to her and she was especially close to her brothers and sisters and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and flourish.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Joan Beer of Mansfield and Gerald Jan Beer of Ft. Myers, FL; a daughter, Elaine Lewis Craven of Mansfield; grandchildren, Dorinda Wayne Manges, Jonette Jim Collins, Donald Wendy Beer, Amy Roy Wiff, Bradley Beer, Rick Laurie Costello, Mark Laura Craven and Greg Amy Craven; twelve great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Clarence Luedy, Marie Stainbrook, Eugene Luedy, Mildred Myers and John Vi Luedy, all of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Marie Ellen Raitch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Albert H. Beer and sister, Elsie Powell.
Friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or First Church of God, 1756 Park Avenue West, Ontario, Ohio 44906.
