Annie Karlene Frazier Farmer-Faulkner - born November 23, 1913, in Johnson County, Georgia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 9, 2011, in Bay Minette, AL. On June 23, 1935, Karlene married M.C. Farmer and they moved to Mobile in 1946. Working as a team, they founded Farmer Construction Company in 1950 and made it a successful business. The Farmers were active supporters of Dauphin Way Baptist Church where Karlene served on the finance committee, served as president of Woman's Missionary Union, served as program director for the "Together We Build" campaign, served on two pastors search committees, and worked for 35 years with DWBC Sunday School program. M.C. and Karlene were active supporters of the University of Mobile. They co-founded the M.C. and Karlene Farmer Scholarship, one of the largest endowed scholarship funds for the university. Karlene was a founding member of the Mobile College Auxiliary, served on the UM Board of Trustees, and served as co-chairman of the Scholarship Committee. She continued to support the university by contributing funds towards the M.C. Farmer Building and other university events. In 1991, the University of Mobile awarded her the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, and in 2006 the university named the dormitory Karlene Farmer Faulkner Hall in honor of her dedication for Christian education. Karlene was involved in numerous civic activities including fine arts, the opera, senior citizen organizations, education, Goodwill Industries, Pilot Club, Pilot International Advisory Board, and the Mobile Historic Society. In 1987, Karlene was named First Lady of Mobile in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the community. After over 50 years of marriage, M.C. passed away on December 25, 1986. She later married J.H. Faulkner of Bay Minette on June 22, 1996. Karlene continued supporting Christian education which included Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL. Jimmy Faulkner passed away on August 22, 2008. Karlene was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Adam and Annie Williams Frazier, and 5 brothers, Thomas Lanier, Jonah Redding, David Archie, Harry Elmo and Freeman Dallas Frazier. She is survived by two step-sons, Jimmy (Beverly) Faulkner, Jr., Dr. Wade (Anne) Faulkner; eight step- grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; dear friends, Thomas G. Hughes, Nancy Wimberley, Lula Lee; and other special loved ones. A visitation will be held Monday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. at Dauphin Way Baptist Church with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
