Faye [Dykstra] Clark of Monroe will be held sunday, january 4, 2004 at the Monroe Community of Christ Church of which Faye was a member, and a graveside services will be held Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Ackland/Dunreath Iowa Cemetery in Marion County with Elder Stephen A. Fredman officiating. The body has been cremated. ...
Mina Faye Clark, 97, died Friday, December 19, 2003 at Hospice Comfort House in Pella. She was born January 23, 1906 near Otley, the daughter of Albert Lieuwes and Jane Breen Dykstra. She was able to enjoy the farm life whe loved her entire life, first with her parents and later as a devoted wife and mother, andd all but twn years within Marion County. When Faye was 6 weeks old, her family moved three miles Northeast of Otley. There she began her education at the rural Valley School until 1916, when her family moved two miles Northwest of Monroe in Jasper County, and she continued her education at the Monroe School graduating valedictorian in 1923. She attended the State University of Iowa 1923-25 obtaining a a teacher's certificate and taught 4 years 1925-29 in rural Marion and Jasper County schools. During this time she lived with her parents who in the interim in 1926 had purchased a farm between Monroe and Otley. Faye continued her education at Iowa State University 1929-31 and 1937- march 19, 1938 when she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and Household Equipment and was chosen a member of the Phi kappa Phi Scholastic honorary. She spent 5 years 1938-43 as clerk in the Knoxville ASCS office. for over the next sixty years, Faye resided in Marion County as a homemaker and mother. She married Joseph Upright Clark August 1, 1943 at her parents' home. To this union one daughter, Jane, was born. She also became the beloved adoptive mother to Joe's four young children, David, Daisy, Paul and Milo whose mother, Bernice Mohler Clark, had died in 1942. From 1943-63 she resided with her husband and family on the Clark homestead one mile north of Dunreath until the US Government requistioned their land as part of the Red Rock Dam flood plain. They purchased a farm two miles south of Monroe, and Faye lived there until one month prior to her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband January 19, 1984; two sisters, Jeannette M. Moore and Helen M. Reidel; a brother Lewis A. Dykstra DVM; and a granddaughter, Brenda Clark. Survivors include her five children all living in the Monroe area; David V. [Joann] Clark, Daisy P. [LaVerne]Yound,; Paul Y. Clark; Milo R. [Janet] Clark; Jane S. [Stephen] Friedman; 14 grandchildren...; 31 greatgrandchildre; 7 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
