U.S. Congressman. Educated in district schools, he engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits and was Sheriff of Ulster County, New York, (1825-28). In 1831, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress, serving until 1833 and was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving (1837-39). After leaving Congress, he resumed his mercantile and agricultural pursuits until his death at age 78.
