John Rabb was the son of William Rabb(one of Stephen F. Austin's original 300 settlers) and Mary Smalley. John's Father, William was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
John and 3 other siblings came to texas with thier family in 1822 settling at San Felipe. John Rabb became one of the first two settlers given land grants on June 6, 1824 by Le Baron de Bastrop, Commissioner and Representative of the King of Spain.
He finally settled on Rabb's Prairie in what is now Fayette County, where he and his father received a bonus of land for building a grist and saw mill. Rabb went on an Indian campaign under John Henry Moore to Fort Tenoxtitlán in 1835 and in 1840 was again in military service when he joined a company under his brother, Thomas J. Rabb.
1840 John Rabb served as Treasurer of Rutersville College which he had donated land for the construction of the College. John also donated lumber for building the first Methodist church in San Antonio
1845 John Rabb served as Vice President of the the Fayette County Temperance Society.
1860 John Rabb moved to Travis County, where he helped to settle Barton Springs.
