U.S. Congressman. Born the son of actor Will Rogers, he graduated from Stanford University in 1935 and was owner-publisher of the Beverly Hills Citizen, California (1935-53). He also served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Field Artillery, U.S. Army (1935-42). In 1943, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-eighth Congress, serving until he resigned in 1944. Returning to the U.S. Army, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion, for the remainder of World War II. He then was active in radio, appeared on television programs and had a minor career as an actor and was most noted for playing his father in several featured films. In addition, he was chairman of the California State Park Commission (1958-62) and served as Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, (1967-69). Suffering with poor health after several strokes, he committed suicide at the age of 81.
