Born Between Ashley Grove and Potecasi ( across from Beale's Mill) on his father/mothers farm, he was the son of Charlie Thomas Futrell and Della Landis Baggett Futrell of Woodland vicinity. He farmed tobacco, cotton and was a barber by trade and a Justice of the Peace. He married Edna Terry Futrell of Aulander, the daughter of William "Billy" Terry and Elsie Farmer Terry. They owned The Quaker House Restraunt from the 1960's to 1990's. Marnch was a tall, well built man, with a humourous, prankster disposition, everyone in town loved his stories. He was such an animated gentleman. He wore a suit most days except while working on the farm or fishing (photo of Marnch fishing at Hares Millpond, Winton NC) But one thing was a constate, his Fedora hat, which he would tilt from his head upon greeting a lady or fellow gentleman. In his youth he chewed Redman tobacco. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and did rather alot of Laye Preaching, he was well versed in the teachings of the Bible. I rarely recall him using a curse word, or speaking ill of anyone. At his death from Prostate Cancer (at 93 yrs old) he spoke to his 2 children and his grandchildren and said "Well, I guess this is it". He died a few days later, and went to his Lord he so believed had a place for him in heaven! He left his wife Edna who survived him another 5 years.
