Ira Leon Allie, 80, of Roanoke, peacefully went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 10, 2011. Ira was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years as a letter carrier. He was born to the late William Robert Allie and Maude Savannah Bryant on February 9, 1931. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Gladys Jenkins Allie; and three brothers, Norman, Clyde and Vernon Allie. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Tony Lee Allie and wife, Carolyn; grandchildren, Stephanie Allie, April and Bradley Dalton, and Christopher and Lynsey Allie; four brothers and their wives, James and Dorothy, Ron and Darlene, Herman and Genie, and Carl and Peggy; two sisters, Irene Barton and Louise Hodges; many nieces and nephews; and a very special and dear friend, Joanne Dennis. Funeral services will be conducted noon, Monday, March 14, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Melvin Atkins of Harvest Ministries officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
