Myrrl Smith, 81, Sparta, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, in her home following a long illness. Mrs. Smith, a homemaker, was born December 13, 1919, in Galloway, Mo., the daughter of the late Walter T. and Evaylee Liles Garrison. She was united in marriage to John J. Smith, Sr. on March 1, 1937, in Cody, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was a member of the Assemblies of God Church, Sparta, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, John J. Smith, III; three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by four sons, William Smith, Steubenville, Ohio, John J. Smith, Sparta, Mo., Walter Smith, Sparta, and Carl Smith, Bloomingdale, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Louise Ward, Bloomingdale, and Frances Thompson, Steubenville; three sisters, Myrtle Dilley, Springfield, Mo., Mary Tate, Chadwick, and Marie Johnson, Sparta; a brother, William R. "Bid" Garrison, Chadwick; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 20, 2001, in Ayre-Goodwin-Lee Funeral Home at Rivermonte. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery, Sparta.
