Helen Elizabeth Dovel Andrew, 90, of 7967 Church St. in Middletown, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Andrew was born Nov. 27, 1913, in the Stanley community of Page County, and was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Ettie Lee Coffman Dovel.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown and the Service Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday school for a number of years and was occasionally a pianist for the Sunday school. She was a member and past president of the Middletown Extension Homemaker's Club, a member of the Middletown Garden Club, and an honorary member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of Middletown Fire and Rescue Companies.

Mrs. Andrew was a retired teacher and librarian, having taught in Page County for 25 years, two years in Warren County, and was a librarian in Frederick County for 14 years. She retired in 1975 after 41 years of service in Virginia Public schools. She was a life member of the Virginia Education Association and a member of Frederick County Retired Teacher's Association.

Her husband, the Rev. Josiah Alwood Andrew, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Marie M. Spitler of Luray, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Anne Hough will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Graves Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
