Mrs. Kathryn Soper Crone of Dickerson died Saturday, Aug. 23 of cancer. She was residing at the Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick, at the time of her death.

Born in Woodfield, Montgomery County, Aug. 22, 1907, Mrs. Crone was the daughter of the late William Oscar and Mary Summerville Duvall Soper and sister of the late William Frank Soper Sr. and the late Bertie L. Thompson.

Mrs. Crone attended the Montgomery County schools and was graduated from Normal School at Towson. She earned a Masters Degree at the University of Maryland. In 1926, she began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Comus where she taught pupils in grades one to six. In 1932, she transferred to the Dickerson Elementary School where she was principal and teacher. After a fire, she and her Dickerson pupils were temporarily transferred to Germantown Elementary
School. She was appointed principal at Germantown in 1959 and held that position until she retired in 1969. For several years, while she was principal at Dickerson, she was also principal at Darnestown Elementary.

Mrs. Crone was married to the late S. Creighton Jones, a Dickerson merchant, who predeceased her in 1945. She was
later married to the late Charles B. Crone, who died in 1975.

Mrs. Crone is survived by nephews W. Frank Soper Jr., Richard W. Thompson and a niece, Kathryn L Phillips. She was the aunt of the late Betty Soper Walker. Her step-daughters
included Eleanor J. Bledsoe, Creighton J. Rhodes, Constance J. Chesley, Ida Lu Price, and the late Myrna J. Clark.

Mrs. Crone was a life member of the Eastern Star, Pentalpha Chapter 38; a member of the Daughters of the Nile; Alpha Conclave of Kappa Kappa Iota, and Alpha Delta Kappa sororities.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug 26, from the Tyson Wheeler Funeral Home in Rockville. The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by the Rev Ronald Heister. Interment will be at the Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville

Pentalpha Chapter 38, Order of Eastern Star, Gaithersburg, will conduct memorial services at 8 p m Monday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home, according to Worthy Matron Catherine Ide
and Secretary Wilma Dahler.

The family suggests contributions may be made to the Homewood Retirement Center, 31 East Patrick Center, Frederick, Md 21701 or The American Cancer Society.
