Jane was the daughter of John & Hannah (Harrell) Smiley of Butler County, Ohio. Jane married 18 May 1843, to Robert Anderson Glasgow of Adams County, Ohio. In the spring of 1842, Robert traveled to Butler County to view some cattle owned by Jane's father. Due to the distant of his travel he was asked to stay all night as their guest. A couple of weeks later Robert traveled back to Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio to ask Mr. John Smiley for the hand of his daughter, Jane in marriage. The marriage was agreed upon if Robert would build Mr. John Smiley's daughter a fine home. It was agreed upon and Mr. Smiley drew up the house plans. Robert built an I house which was a common style in southern Ohio at that time. They were married a year later in the spring of 1843 and went onto have ten children.
