His father was Henry Hoover. Grandpa Frank always wondered why his father left when Frank was only 10 or 12 years old.

Frank worked many summers and falls in the Hoopeston, Illinois, canning factories. He was working there in 1912, when he sent a birthday card to my father, Harley Hoover. I still have the card.

May have been taken in the early 1930s at the Smith homestead, since the doorway is unfamiliar to me. Further the dirt on his farm was clay, but this photo appears to show him covered in coal dust.
