Son of James Albert and Annie Mary BAILEY ELDER. He married Faith Elaine GEPFORD on 27 June 1928 in Shelbyville, IL. They later divorced.

Charles Edgar Elder, 84, of Niantic died 12:15 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 27, 1980) in his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home. Burial will be in Berea Cemetery, near Niantic. Memorials: Berea Christian Church or Heart Fund.

Mr. Elder was born in Mosquito Township, Christian County, son of James Albert and Annie M. Elder. He was a member of Berea Christian Church, Osbornville A.T.A. Lodge 331, the Modern Woodmen and Niantic Civic Club, a retired Niantic schools custodian and an Army veteran of World War I. Surviving are brothers, Cecil and Harold Robert, both of Mount Auburn; Raymond O. and Earl J., both of Blue Mound. One sister preceded him in death.
