Henry Calvin Vaughan, 77, of Germantown, died May 30 at his residence. He was the husband of Frances J. Vaughan for 50 years.

Born in Green Bay, Va., he was the son of the late James Wycliffe Vaughan and Sarah Lois Shefield Vaughan.

He was a retired small appliance service technician. He served in World War II from Feb. 10, 1943, to Oct. 22, 1945, in Headquarters Battery 151st Field Artillery Battalion as a telephone and telegraph lineman. Among his decorations and citations were European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars and Bronze Arrowhead, and the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Damascus Post 171 American Legion and Moose Lodge #371, Frederick.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, Janet A. Crown and her husband, David, of Jackson, Ga.; Betty J. Smith and her husband, Robert, of Gaithersburg; Calvin Thomas Vaughan and his wife, Rosario, of Adamstown; and James E. Vaughan and his wife, Julie, of Santa Fe, N.M. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Flossie V. Harris of Green Bay, Va.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Barton, and a brother, John Vaughan.

Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, Damascus, handled the arrangements. The Damascus Post 171 American Legion conducted a memorial service Friday and funeral services were held Saturday with interment in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
