Richard "Dick" J. Cory, 88, of Grand Rapids, MN died Friday, March 4, 2011 at Evergreen Terrace, Grand Rapids, MN.
Richard was born in 1923 to Alexander and Agnes Cory in New York. He grew up as a farmer in rural Buffalo, New York and served in the South Pacific in the U. S. Navy during WW II on the USS Eurayle. Richard was united in marriage to Mary Feckner on June 10, 1950 in Maywood, Illinois. They raised their four children in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Richard worked in construction as a carpenter and as a millwright. Richard and Mary made their home in the Grand Rapids area of Minnesota since 1976. Richard was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose, both in Grand Rapids. He loved to build things with his hands and also loved to hunt and fish.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Theodore, Frank, Edmund, Henry, and Terry; sisters, Peggy, Josephine, Mary, Penny, Pat, Alice and Sandy.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary, of 60 years, and four children, Richard A. (Pam Ogden) Cory, Dracut, MA; Patricia A. (Frank) Street, Awendaw, SC; Donna M. (Mark) Kazen, Grand Rapids, MN; Steven M. (Kathleen) Cory, Grand Rapids, MN; five grandchildren, MSgt. Richard A. (Debbie) Cory, Jr., USAF; Erin Stacy (Tony Gonzalez) Cory; Amy Marie Cory; Sean Michael Cory; and Joseph G. (Christina) LaFiura; four great-grandchildren, Gavin and Megan Felholter and Brooklynn and Lilianna LaFiura.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10th in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11th in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jerry Weiss will officiate. Burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids with full military honors.
