Death of Hiram E. Carpenter, an aged and respected citizen, occured at his late home in this village last Sunday evening.
He is survived by his aged wife and two children, Benoni Carpenter of Wethersfield and Mrs. George Norris of Warsaw, also two brothers, Oliver of Michigan and Rev. Horace Carpenter of this place. Deceased was a soldier of the Civil War and did valient service for the Union Cause.

The remains of Hiram Carpenter were brought here for burial Monday the 17th.
His funeral was held on Thursday from the Congregational Church, Rev. Mr. Richards officiated at the same. He was buried at Wethersfield beside his first wife.

At age 29 he enlisted Sept. 11, 1864 at Java, NY for 1 year. On Sept. 19, 1864 he was a Private in Co.H NY 9th Calvary. Musted out June 1, 1865 as Private at Winchester, Virginia, discharged June 2, 1865 with detachment, he served 8 months and 12 days. He is described as having blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, and stood 5'5" tall.
