Aviation Pioneer. Born Carl Brown Squier in Decatur, Michigan, he was known as the world's greatest airplane salesman. He was the thirteenth licensed pilot in America and was awarded the Criox de Guerre from France, for serving as combat pilot in World War I. In 1926, he was a co-founder of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation Burbank, California, which built the Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra one of the first passenger aircrafts used by Northwest Airlines in 1938. He also sold planes to Charkes Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post and worked on designs with Howard Hughes. During World War II, Lockheed manufactured more than 19,000 planes including the famed P-38 Lightning fighter. He served as general manager of the Lockheed Aircraft until he retired.
