Vel, 86, passed away at 4:17 a.m., at her home.

She was a daughter to William B. and Bernice O. (Gamble) Agler. Her mother, 103, survives in Van Wert. On Mar 26, 1950, she married Ray S. Brown, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Roger P., Lima; a daughter, Rae Diane (Kevin) Brown-Moore, Lakeview; and a brother, Stanley Agler, Van Wert.

Deceased is a brother, Branson.

She was a 1942 graduate of Van Wert High School and was a 1945 graduate of Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating nursing school she worked at the Ohio Steel Foundry and assisted in surgery at the District T.B. Hospital. From 1948 to 1952 she worked at the Lima Tank Depot modification center. In 1952, she helped organize the Shawnee Branch of Ohio Industrial Nurses Association and served as the association's first president. She did volunteer work for the Red Cross Blood Bank and disaster programs for more than 10 years. From 1978 to 1988, she worked at the Sohio Lima Oil Refinery and after 10 years retired. After her husband's retirement she and her husband began to care for an apple orchard neglected for many years on their farm. They now have approximately 400 apple trees. The "hobby" turned into a business with a large cider press. Up until the time of her death she assisted her son, Roger, who runs Spencerville Road Apple Orchard today. She was a sister of the Beta Sigma Phi Alpha Master Chapter since 1947 and was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and its Women's Circle.

Services will be at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, with Rev. Phyllis Fetzer, officiating.
