Funeral services for Lenton Speer, age 84, of Marquez and formerly Rockdale, are scheduled for 10 AM, Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Gene Darby will officiate the service and interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery with memorial honors presented by the United States Army. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 2 PM to 8 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.

Lenton Speer was born on December 12, 1926 in Concord, Texas to Ben Thomas & Iva (Seale) Speer. He attended Concord Schools and always joked about having graduated in the top 10% of his class of only 7 students! Mr. Speer served in the United States Army during WWII. He married his wife of almost 62 years, Irene Ellison, on January 26, 1949. They lived in Rockdale for over 23 years where Mr. Speer was a member of the Rockdale Baseball Association. Mr. Speer retired from Alcoa as a supervisor and he and his wife made their home in Marquez. He was the pastor and elder of the Marquez Church of Christ for 40 years and a faithful member of the Centex Parkinson's Support Group. His favorite pastime was tending to cattle and ranching. Mr. Speer was honored with a lifetime membership in the Texas Limosuin Association. He was also a member of the Concord Alumni Association and a charter member of the Marquez Chamber of Commerce. Anyone who knew Mr. Speer knew that he was also Bluebell Icecream's Biggest Fan! Mr. Speer passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 in Bryan, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Benton Speer; brother, Ray Seale Speer and three sisters, Beatrice Speer, Mary Estelle McMichael & Kathlyn Speer.

Survivors include wife, Irene (Ellison) Speer; sons & daughters-in-law, Mike & Betty Speer of Marquez & Tim & Alice Speer of Marquez; daughter & son-in-law, Deborah & Mike Burrough of Rockdale; six grandchildren, Kyle Speer & wife, Brook, Michelle Lehmkuhl & husband, Matthew, Kent Speer & wife, Tina, Lance Burrough & wife, Jennifer, Delana Speer & Ben Speer; eight great grandchildren, Kendall, Clay & Brody Speer, Tyler & Hannah Lehmkuhl, Melanie & Barrett Speer, Parker Burrough and one great grandchild on the way.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Speer, Kent Speer, Lance Burrough, Ben Speer, Matt Lehmkuhl and Tyler Lehmkuhl.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Hugo Ellison, Leslie Rogers, Rick Morris, Roger Willis, Jack Clark, Mark Waycasey, Harold Alford, Don Hall, Joe Homer Holmes, Jack Tice, Cecil Smith and L.C. Wall.
