Funeral services for John "Clem" Girdner, who died Monday night at 8 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Julius hart, South Palestine, after an illness of several months, were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock First Christian Church.
The services were conducted by the Rev. A.C. Turner, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Tyler, and the Rev. W.B. Oliver, pastor of the First Christian Church. Burial was in the Modoc cemetery. The Athens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Girdner, a retired farmer and native Texan, was born on October 25, 1861, and had resided in and near Athens for the past seventy-one years.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Tyler.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Julius Hart and Mrs. Charlie Lambright of Athens; Mrs. W.T. Follis of Houston; Mrs. Claude Livesay of California; and Mrs. H.O. Blair of Tyler; one son, John T. Girdner of Houston, and twenty-one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
