Herbert North of Hagarville was driving the car in which Mr. Clark was riding when it was struck by a car driven by Johnny Head of Altus. According to the officer investigating, Head crossed onto the North lane causing the two cars to collide.
North and his wife, Annon, Mr. Clark and his wife, Clara, and
Head were all taken to Turner Hospital in Ozark where Clark who
suffered a skull fracture, underwent brain surgery that night.
Clark never did regain consciousness. He was transferred to Fort
Smith the next day. North had also been transferred to Fort Smith. Mrs. North remains at Ozark and Mrs. Clark has been dismissed.
The North and Clark couples were returning home after spending the week end with relatives in Oklahoma.
Mr. Clark, 67, of Route 1, Lamar was a retired farmer, sawmill operator, and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Owen Stumbaugh of Hagarville; one son, James Thomas Clark, Jr. of Tulsa, Okla; one step-son Arnold Hutchens of Pekin, Ill.; six brothers, Henry Clark of Vanduser, Mo., John, D. A., George, Brooks, and Bill Clark all of Lamar; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Bacchus and Mrs. Ollie Alderson both of Lamar, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lee's Chapel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. W. R. Kelton, the Rev. Oren Bridges, and the Rev. Arch McAnult officiating.
Burial was in the Annie's Chapel cemetery under the direction of Cox
Funeral Home.
