Graveside services for Mr. Charles D . Norrod, 88, of New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH, were conducted with full military honors at 1 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 from Riverside Cemetery in Milford, NH.

Mr. Norrod died Sunday, February 27, at Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin, NH. He had lived in Londonderry, NH for several years and had resided in Nashua, NH for 5 years. Prior to moving to New Hampshire, he had resided in Mount Clemens, MI for more than 50 years. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor for UPS. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Crawford, TN.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Norrod was one of only 2 sailors that survived when their PT boat came under attack in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Leando, CA on December 27, 1944 as a result of wounds he received in action.

Mr. Norrod loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Born October 30, 1922 in Crawford, TN, he was the son of the late Fletcher J. and Viola Norrod. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife whom he adored, Bonnie G. (Phillips) Norrod, who died in 2007; and a daughter, Donna Petty.

Survivors include a son, James D. Norrod of Nashua, NH; 4 grandchildren, Heather Smith of Amherst, NH, April Pedroza of Milford, NH, William Petty of Derry, NH, and Tami Petty of New York, NY; 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and Vickie Norrod of Tyngsboro, MA.
