No services will be held for Don Hancock, 89, of Prosser, Wash. Interment will be at the Elkton cemetery.

Don was born Aug. 5, 1921, to Leslie and Beatrice Hancock on the family ranch in Elkton. He passed in his sleep Feb. 18, 2011, in Prosser, Wash., near the home of his granddaughter, Linda Hancock-Johnson and husband, Brandon.

On June 26, 1943, he married Bertha Wells. In 1961 they moved to Gold Beach, where he worked for Sause Bros Ocean Towing. They then moved to North Bend, where they bought the Cooston Store. He drove log trucks and owned Don Hancock and Son Trucking.

Don served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in some of the toughest campaigns of the war in the Pacific.

He was well known as a man who would be there day in and day out, doing what needed to be done, usually with a joke, funny story or a comment, just for the sake of keeping things stirred up.

Don is survived by his daughters, Carol and husband, Vern Olson of North Bend, and Cathie and husband, Larry Beauvais of Snohomish, Wash.; grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Tracy Olson, Larry and Kim Olson, Kris and Dene Olson, Linda and Brandon Johnson, Leslie and Rikk Holguin, Christopher Hancock, and Cortnee Beauvais.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; and son, Tom Hancock.
