Leon H. Canfield, 94, died June 15 in Hawaii. He was a Syracuse native and the author of several history books, including, "The United States in the Making," which was used in Syracuse schools.
He was a professor of American history at City College of New York and Fairleigh-Dickinson University in New Jersey.
Canfield was a 1908 graduate from Syracuse University and was president of his class. He was coxswain of the crew.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Erna Canfield; a daughter, Mrs. John Lenander of New Jersey; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Clyde of Utica.
Burial will be Saturday in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, the Rev. Leonard Bjorkman of Onondaga Valley Presbyterian
Church officiating.
