U.S. Congressman. He attended Iowa State University, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1878 and commenced to practice law in Clarion, Iowa. He was district judge of the eleventh judicial district of Iowa, (1893-1900). In 1903, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth, Fifty-ninth and Sixtieth Congresses, serving until 1909. He then returned to the practice of law until his death at age 58.
