Obituary for Caroline T. Bettin
Caroline T. Bettin, age 92, of Urbank, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Bethany Home in Alexandria.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank with Rev. Matthew Crane officiating and Carla Bettin, reader. Music is provided by Kim Byrne and the church choir. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Sunday at the church with a 6:00 p.m., rosary and 7:00 p.m., prayer service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.
Caroline Tillie was born May 31, 1921, to Peter and Barbara (Reger) Koep in Urbank. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank. She grew up in Urbank and attended Sacred Heart Parochial School through the 8th grade. Following her education she moved to Joplin, Missouri where she worked as a nanny. She was united in marriage to George Bettin in August of 1944. Following their marriage they returned to Urbank. In addition to raising her family, Caroline worked as a cook at the Sacred Heart School, Old Mill and Vining Palace. She worked as a clerk for the Urbank Co-Op store until it closed three years ago when she was 89 years. She was a member of the Urbank Lions, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christian Mothers for 55 years, church board and choir. In her free time, Caroline enjoyed trips to the casino, playing cards and dice and watching Twins and Bombers baseball. She golfed until the age of 87, handmade each grandchild a quilt, gardened and canned, especially pickles which she gave to everyone. She loved to entertain her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Caroline lived in Urbank almost all of her life and loved the town, church and people. Even during her brief stay at Bethany she looked forward to outings with her friends and family. She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; daughter-in-law, Arlene; five brothers, Arthur, George, Alfred, Harry and Edmund; and two sisters, Helen and Eleanor.
Caroline is survived by her three sons, Frank of Parkers Prairie, Ken (Sandy) of Avon and Pat (Claudette) of Parkers Prairie; two daughters, Muriel (Mike) Nirschl of Moorhead and Joyce Schiele of Starbuck; two sisters, Viola Klimek of Urbank and Evelyn Roers of Alexandria; two sisters-in-law, Hildegard Dorn of Fergus Falls and Evelyn Koep of Parkers Prairie; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Troy Bettin, Monty Bettin, Chad Bettin, Scot Bettin, Kyle Bettin, Cole Nirschl and Kevin Koep. Honorary pallbearers are the Urbank Lions and Christian Mothers.
