Charles Stephen "Steve" Gibbs, 58, of Holton, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at his home.

He was born Nov. 28, 1948, in Clay City, Ill., the son of Waldon and Patricia Murphy Gibbs. He was a former nuclear engineer with Commonwealth Edison in Rockford, Ill. In 1992, he founded the C.S. Gibbs Corp., which was the parent company of Sure-Loc Archery products. In 2000, he moved his company from South Beloit, Ill., to Versailles. Since 1996, Sure-Loc archery sights have been used by Olympic champions and archers worldwide. He was an eight-time National Field Archery Association Champion and a former IBO World Champion. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Olean, the Versailles Lions Club, NFAA, IBO, Archery Trade Association and the Archery Shooters Association.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Lauersdorf Gibbs, whom he married Dec. 3, 1994; one daughter, Stephanie West of Versailles; his father, of Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Lee Gibbs of Milledgeville, Ill.; four sisters, Waldena Stewart of Rockford, Ill., Bonnie Beyer of St. Ansgar, Iowa. Lynda Charleston of Altoona, Iowa, and Janice Cawthorne of California; one stepbrother, Father Ray Schultz of Fairview Heights, Ill.; one stepsister, Marilyn Klingermann of Murphysboro, Ill.; five grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his stepmother, Seva Gibbs.

The funeral was at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Olean. Burial was in the church cemetery.
