James Henry Cook was born in Howard Co., Arkansas, but his exact birth date is in question. James Henry Cook's and Sular Blackwood Cook's children were: Willie Cook (1902-1970), Pierce Cook (1908-1973), Leonard Cook (1911-1982), Haller Cook (1912-1964), Clarance Cook (1916-1970), Lena Cook Hutchings (1917-1998), Brena Cook Baker (1917-1992), Virdlow Cook (1921-1972)and Foster Cook (1923-1986). Only the gravesites for Pierce, Brena, Foster, Leonard, Haller and Virdlow are known at this time. Links to their Find A Grave memorials are listed below. All of Mr. Cook's children were born in Arkansas except for Foster and Virdlow, who were born in Oklahoma. After a few years in Oklahoma the Cook family moved to the High Plains of Texas, around 1924, and settled in Lamb County on a farm southeast of Sudan in an area known as the Beck community. Most of the children, except for Willie, grew up in this area. After the children were grown and on their own Mr. Cook sold the farm in the mid-1940's and eventually moved to Arlington, Texas. He bought a tourist court along US Highway 80 on the east side of Arlington. He and his son Virdlow, after Virdlow returned from the Army, operated this tourist court and a small cafe for several years. In his later years Mr. Cook lived with his daughter Brena in Pecos and Odessa Texas. Then he lived in a couple of rest homes in Odessa and Wink Texas. During his final years he lived in a rest home in Conroe, Texas near his son Foster.
