From his obituary: "Mr. Hendon was born in Troup County near Hogansville in 1833 and spent most of his life in this county. He lived for a short time in Meriwether County and an even shorter time in Carroll County. He volunteered during the Civil War and was a member of the 13th Ga. Regiment for four years. He married twice, his first wife being Miss Elizabeth Scroggin. (Note: it IS Scoggin) Twelve children came to bless their lives, only three of whom are still living. After the death of his first wife, he married Mrs. Elizabeth Simmons in 1889."
