Obituary: John M Hicks, 87, of 5920 South Street (Carysville), Conover, Ohio, died Monday, May 8th, 2000 at the Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney, Ohio. Mr. Hicks was born December 11th, 1912, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Alfred and Dora Ellen (Bolen) Hicks, both deceased. On April 12, 1934, he married Martha (Sexton) Hicks, who survives. He retired in 1977 as a goverment employee at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he worked for Aero Space Medical Research Lab. He was also formerly employed by Elkhorn Coal Company in Kentucky. Mr. Hicks is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law: Billy J. and Esperanza Hicks of Springfield, Ohio, Charles E. and Caroline Hicks of Crawfordville, FL, Jim R. Hicks of Wellington, Ohio, and John and Debbie Hicks of Urbana; three daughter and sons-in-law: Deloris and Randy Gilliam of Bucyrus, Ohio, Betty L. and Jim Paylor of New Washington, Ohio, and Brenda J. and Mike Gustin of Fletcher, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Bert Hicks of Prestonsburg, KY, Orville Hicks of Round Head, Ohio, and Roger W. Hicks of Ashtabula, Ohio and one sister Millie Dudley of Langley, KY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers: Elbert, Lawrence, Mitchell, Ervin, Millard, Miles and Arnold Lee Hicks and one sister, Polly Hayes.
