Composer, conductor, & violinist of one of the largest orchestras in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the pre- & early World War II era, "The Jack Stevens Orchestra" (orchestra may have been known by other forgotten names).* Born to Austro-Hungarian immigrants of Slovak descent, Joseph & Maria (Ferencsik) Stracka, living the last two years of his life with wife & son in Pittsburgh's McKees Rocks Terrace, a hilltop community overlooking the Ohio River Valley. Formerly of McKees Rocks Bottoms. Eighth-grade education. Drove a Packard. Employed with Pressed Steel Car Company—a manufacturer of freight & passenger railroad cars—for over 20 years, advancing from a messenger to a clerk/checker by 1930. Partook in religious retreats to St. Vincent College, a Catholic institution in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
