There seldom comes to a community so sad an occurrence as that of last Saturday evening (July 14, 1894) in the Tama Town neighborhood. After a week of hard, hot work in the harvest field, a party of men and boys went to the river for recreation and a bathe in the clean waters of the Mississippi. The party consisted of Silas Walker, and his only son, his brother Thomas H., two of his sons, and a young man named McAllister. Of this party, Silas Walker, his son, Martin, and Thomas H. Walker were drowned.
