Mrs. A.L. (Dovie) Benton, 90, of Rt. 1 Mendenhall died Aug. 5 at Crossgate Nursing Home.

The Simpson County native was a member of Poplar Springs Baptisth Church.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Benton, Rev. Edward Perrett, Dr. Kenneth West and Rev. Carey Cox officiated. Upton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and burial was at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include Woodrow Benton, Thomas Benton, and A.L. Benton, all of Brandon; Rev. Howard Benton, Pearl; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Ponder and Miss Almeda Benton, both of Mendenhall; Mrs. Aline Myers, Brandon; three sisters, Mrs. Tyna Hammett, Oak Grove, La.; Mrs. Maggie Dukes, Pearl; Mrs. Bessie McCourt, New Port News, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
