LOWVILLE — Marilyn (Dustin) Woodard, originally from Copenhagen, NY and long term resident of Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility passed away on July 11th 2010.
Marilyn is the daughter of the late Harry Miller Dustin and Ethel (Pierce) Dustin and was born June 5th 1931 in Boonville. She graduated from Boonville Central School, and was part of singing quartet with her lovely soprano voice. She attended Utica School of Commerce after high school, and received a certificate in business and bookkeeping. Marilyn married the late Bernard Chapin in the early 1950's, and June 24th 1963 married her second husband, the late Chester (Chet) Roy Woodard.
She is survived by a son Dr. Kevin B. Chapin, Melbourne, Florida, a daughter Cynthia (Woodard) Garbisch, Son-In-Law Scott Garbisch, and one grandson, Ronald Johnson, all of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Marilyn became involved with the American Legion Post 162 in Lowville, during her marriage to Chet Woodard, and spent over 20 years of her life as the bookkeeper and bartender for the club until retiring in 1992. Marilyn truly loved her job and the people she encountered. During her time there she also served as auxiliary president, and assisted with many functions and children's programs. In addition, Marilyn was also an active member of the VFW auxiliary. Marilyn's zest for life went beyond people, and she truly loved animals; especially dogs. In the past, she and her family raised quality Golden Retrievers and Saint Bernards. Marilyn always had a faithful friend at her home in Copenhagen. Marilyn also had a love for antiques and dancing. She was well known for her ability to do the jitterbug, and entered several dance competitions. Marilyn was always a comrade to all, wanted to help others, and will be missed greatly.
Friends may pay respects on Saturday July 17th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sundquist Funeral Home, Lowville. A funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will commence after the funeral at Riverside Cemetery, Copenhagen.
Marilyn's family would like to offer much heartfelt appreciation to the third floor staff at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility for their many years of dedication, care, and concern.
