David Porter was recruited on Aug. 29, 1862, to be assigned to the Seventh Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers. He was never sent to join the regiment, and 6 weeks later he was transferred to the 14th Regiment US Infantry. He was discharged for disability on March 19, 1863.
