John H. "Jack" Godlove, 90, of Sarasota, Fla., and of Point Chautauqua, Dewittville, N.Y., died Thursday (March 3, 2011) in Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla.
He was born March 28, 1920 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Dempster W. and Edith Hespenheide Godlove.He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne G. (Thomas) Gross of Westfield; a son, John H. "Skip" (Kitty) Godlove Jr. of Siesta Key, Fla.; one granddaughter, Dr. Jennifer A. Godlove of Terre Haute, Indiana; two grandsons, Scott T. Gross of Sarasota, Fla., and C.J. Godlove of Sarasota, Fla., a brother, Richard H. Godlove of St. Louis, Mo.; a cousin, Earl A. Hespenheide of Jamestown; several nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Henderson Godlove, whom he married May 10, 1950 in Webster Groves Mo., and who died Oct. 30, 2007; a brother, Dempster W. Godlove Jr. in 1918; a sister, Edith Hespenheide Gillette in 1998, and a granddaughter Alexandra Gross in 1989.
