Francis Edward Tranter was born April 19, 1919, the youngest of 3 children born to Walter E. & Susan (Clarke) Tranter, and their only son. His two oldest sisters were born in England. He lived with his parents in Gilbert Twp., Hand Co., South Dakota, 9 1/4 miles north of Wessington, just west of the Beadle Co. line, until 1940, when his father retired, and they moved to Wessington.
Francis, 23, and single, died of pneumonia in Redfield, (Spink Co.) on December 18, 1942.

Funeral services for Francis Edward Tranter, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Tranter of Wessington, who died in Redfield Friday night, were held at the family residence in Wessington Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. W.J. Wienands had charge of the services, and burial was made in the Wessington Cemetery.
