CSA-The Dalton Guards served in the Army of Northern Virginia and which hailed from Whitfield and Murray County, Georgia "Enlisted June 11,1861; Company B Phillips Legion Infanty;Wounded in action (both thighs) May 1863 at Chancellorsville per casualty list in May 19,1863 Atlanta Southern Confederacy; 1906 Roster Commission Roll states that he was severely wounded at Chancellorsville May 31,1863 and was detailed to Quartermaster Dept. at CHarleston,SC, as unfit for field service,SEE ANV SO 225/7 dated September 8,1863; Postwar pension application states he was shot in the head and through both thighs; at Augusta,GA, at war's end working for Major Willis of QM Dept; Born December 14,1842 in Dalton to Robert Hammond and Susan Hammond Baker: Died September 11,1921 in Whitfield County(GA). Buried in West Hill Cemetery"
