Louis DeWitt LaRoche was born Sep 14, 1938 to Tony and Vera (St. Pierre) LaRoche, Sr. He attended grade school at the Pierre Indian Learning Center and then high school at Pierre High School and also at Lake Norden. After high school, he attended trade school earning his certification as a baker and salon operator. Around 1968, he moved to Minneapolis, MN where he made his home until returning to Lower Brule in the early 1990's. Louis worked for the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe in different positions. His hobbies included doing genealogy research for various projects, reading, and bingo. But Louis especially loved to travel. Without Louis, the tribal office will never be the same.
Louis passed away on Nov 6, 2008 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 70 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his brothers and sisters Roberta "Patsy" Schuler of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Tony "Pudgy" LaRoche, Sr. of Fort Pierre, SD, Donna Huber of Owatonna, MN, Francis Ziegler of Lower Brule, SD, Sandy Swift Eagle of Rapid City, SD, Bill LaRoche, Rick LaRoche, Jackie Jandreau, Rita Ollerich, Robin LaRoche Middletent, Lana LaRoche, Emma LaRoche, Marilyn Whitney, and Harvey LaRoche all of Lower Brule, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in were his parents Tony and Vera (St. Pierre) LaRoche, Sr; 3 brothers Marvin LaRoche, Marlowe "Sam" LaRoche, and James LaRoche; a nephew Jeremy LaRoche; a granddaughter Krista LaRoche; and a grandson Charles LaRoche.
