YANCEYVILLE - Mr. James Preston Aldridge Sr., 89, a resident of Twin Lakes Retirement Center's The Orchard health-care building, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002.

He was born June 5, 1912, in Caswell County. He was the son of William Preston Aldridge and Annie Gunn Aldridge, both deceased, and the husband of the late Luetta Carroll Aldridge.

He graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in 1929. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Yanceyville, and also attended First United Methodist Church of ElonCollege since 1997. He resided at Twin Lakes Retirement Community from 1990 until his death. Mr. Aldridge was general manager of Cole Chevrolet in Yanceyville until 1957 and was service manager at Graham Motors Chevrolet in Graham from 1957 through 1964. From 1965 to 1982, he was shop foreman at Atwater Ford in Burlington and service represent-ative at County Fordin Graham until he retired in 1984.

Survivors include two daughters, Anne A. Telford and husband Jacque of Durham and Peggy L. Aldridge of Burlington; two sons, James Preston Aldridge Jr. and wife Marcia of Macon, Ga., and Carroll Lee Aldridge of Kernersville; a brother, Samuel Eugene Aldridge of Yanceyville; four grandchildren, Alice B. Dugan and husband David of Durham, Lawrence H. Best of Morrisville, Elizabeth A. Motto and husband Michael of Stanley and Thomas James Preston Aldridge and wife Rita, of Mooresville; and two great-grandsons, Dane Christopher Dugan and Addison JamesDugan, both of Durham. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ida Lee Aldridge, and three brothers, Ralph Mims Aldridge, Bernard Pritchard Aldridge and William Bowe Aldridge.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prospect United Methodist Church on N.C. 158 W., Yancey-ville, by the Rev. Bryan Faggart. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church before the service. In lieu of flowers, friends should feel free to donate to a charity of choice, or to the Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlingtonn, NC 27216. Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements.
