John Purser "JP" White of Ridgeland, MS passed away on March 1, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland at the age of 89.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3 from 5 ? 8 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson and from 10-11 am, Friday at Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson followed by an 11 am funeral service at the church. A private family graveside will be at Lakewood Memorial Park South.

John was born on July 16, 1921 to the late Cleon B. White and Mary Alice Reeves White in McComb, MS. He is a graduate of McComb High School and Mississippi College. He met and married the love of his life, Mrs. Barbara Ann Gerrard White, and together they celebrated over 62 years of marriage.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

He worked as a Conductor for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for over 45 years. JP came from a family that loved Gospel Music. He was a faithful choir member and for many years sang in the Utility Four Quartet.

He was a deacon at Parkway Baptist Church and will be remembered by his family and friends as a great and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, Cleon B. White and Mary Alice Reeves White; and his brothers, James D. White and C.B. White. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, John P. White, Jr (Patricia), Howard G. White (Lynn Meadows-White), Carl M. White (Frances), Phyllis Sandoval (Paul) and Laura White; his sisters, Mary Cleo Colmer Cothen and Lena Lou Kleinpeter; his eight grandchildren and 8.5 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Mr. White's name to: Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center Blvd, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
