Henry took over the original Vonderheide homeplace south of Stewardson after his father's death. He expanded the dairy farm over the years. Later two of his sons operated the dairy, which is now run by his grandson. He married Helen Meyer, who died in 1972, and they had four sons and a daughter.
Henry married Juanita Walk Deters in 1975, and they lived at Teutopolis until Henry's death.
